Preserving Fine Old Time Music

Mel Durham (1914 - 2008)

Services info from a blog.

As most of you know, services for Mel will be at the White Funeral Home in Bellflower (9903 East Flower St.) on Friday, March 14th. Viewing will be at 10 am and the service at 11am. Jim, Judy and John are trying to complete all arrangements for their fathers burial, which will be next to Peg Durham, the wonderful lady Mel shared over 50 of the best years of his life with.

Mel's passing will sadden us all, and at times like these the best thing we can do is gather and relive some of our memories with friends who remain. I Mel's case this means lots of music. So, with this in mind we will be hosting pickin' party at our home in Yorba Linda on Saturday, March 15th starting around 1:30 to celebrate Mel's life with music. Mel loved several different music styles, but traditional music, Bluegrass and Old Timey was what he loved to play most. For all of you who have played music with Mel over the years, try to think of some of your favorite Mel tunes to share with everyone.

John, Judy, and Jim will be here, and we hope you will able to join us. Marti is planning on making a huge pot of her wonderful chili, but if you would like to bring anything to add to the table, feel free to do so. Extra dishes are always welcome at pickin' parties. We have no idea how many to plan for, but I know we won't go hungry. We'll also have plenty of beverages on ice to keep us hydrated.

Please pass this invitation to any of Mel's friends that I may not have reached with this email. Mel had so many friends he played with, and my email address book was far from adequate. We would hate to miss friends of Mel's due to an unknown phone numbers, or email addresses. I would especially regret missing some of Mel's friends that I know personally, but haven't seen in many years.

If you need to reach me for anything, my cell phone is 714-322-1558 and our home phone is 714-524-7701.

Our address in Yorba Linda is: 4121 Casa Loma Ave. We are about 3 miles east of the 57 freeway. The nearest cross street is Imperial Hwy. and Bastanchury. From Imperial Hwy go east on Bastanchury about 3 streets and turn left (north) on Casa Loma. The first cross street is Pacific Ave., and our house is on the northwest corner of Pacific & Casa Loma.

Hope to see you then,

Ross & Marti Landry
